The Macmillan eLearning Development Schools programme (MeLDS) is a CSI initiative of Macmillan Education South Africa. This successful programme is currently in its third year under the project management of Ricky Steenkamp.

In 2019, the project is taking place in Mpumalanga, where 60 Foundation Phase educators from 6 schools are being trained to use laptops both as a teaching tool and as a planning tool, and on how to make resources to aid in their teaching.

Each of the 60 Foundation Phase educators received a laptop donated by Macmillan Education. Furthermore, the 6 schools participating in the programme also received a data projector. Two trainers were appointed to train the educators at the two chosen locations: namely, Siyabuswa and Mbombela (Nelspruit).

The programme was launched on the 9th and 11th July where the laptops were handed over to each educator. Training commenced on the 15th July.

Educators have grabbed this opportunity with both hands; they jumped right in and immediately began using what they have learned in their daily teaching. We are confident that MeLDS will be a resounding success in 2019.
