Soweto - The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust’s (NMCHT) For Kids By Kids campaign has partnered with Nutty Scientists South Africa to bring the story of Nelson Mandela’s legacy project and the wonderful world of science to hundreds of Grade 10 learners in four Soweto schools. Nutty Scientists, an edutainment company that specialises in showcasing science in everyday life, has developed shows to inform pupils about the hospital and its importance to the healthcare system.

Vuyo Lutseke, the Media and Communications Officer at NMCHT, says, “Children are at the core of the hospital project, and through the For Kids By Kids programme we have involved children at various stages of the process. By partnering with Nutty Scientists on this awareness campaign, we not only want to inform children of the opportunities that lie with science-based education, but also to teach them more about what Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital will offer.”  She added: “Nutty Scientists is the obvious choice for conveying this message as they have engaging entertaining format and kids love their shows.”

Supported by Macmillan Education South Africa, this campaign will focus on schools, but the hope is to spread the message to more school and reach more children.

“Macmillan Education is a leading player in the education market, and is known across the world for putting people at the heart of everything we do.” says Caren Maree, Group Marketing Manager. “We support this campaign because we believe that through education you can change learners’ lives. Through education they can expand their minds, learn more about the world around them, understand how things work and develop their imagination so that they can become scientists, doctors or anything they want.”

Kevin Koz, founder of Nutty Scientist South Africa says: “We are privileged to be a part of the launch campaign for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.  This project lies close to our hearts as we get to be a part of spreading the legacy of the late Nelson Mandela and his vision and ideals.

This opportunity enables us to create an impact through "Edutaining" the learners in Soweto in the wonders of science. Our aim is to ignite a passion in science in learners in a fun and interactive manner. Through creating awareness of the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, we hope to inspire the youth of Soweto to aim high and to become active positive participants in our country's future, specifically in the fields of science.”
