Macmillan Education donated a Reading Trolley and a Reading Corner as part of the Mandela Day Celebrations in the Free State
On Monday, 18 July, Macmillan Education celebrated Mandela Day in collaboration with the Free State Department of Education. This event was hosted by the Motheo District at Gonyane Primary School in Bloemfontein.
A large number of Departmental Officials as well as School Principals came together to celebrate Tata’s birthday and to bring tributes to him. The learners from Gonyane Primary had the guests on their feet with their beautiful singing and dancing.
Macmillan Education in particular was welcomed by a Grade 4 learner, Leah Mokhoane, from the host school. Her word of welcome touched the hearts of the Macmillan team. “Macmillan answered Madiba’s call to make our lives better by giving us books and by doing that changing our lives forever.”
Macmillan Education donated a Foundation Phase Reading Trolley with 350 books as well as a Teacher Pack to Gonyane Primay School. It is important for young learners to read in their mother tongue and therefore both a Sesotho and Setswana Foundation Phase Reader Pack were included in the trolley, amounting to a value of R32 000.00.
To add more spice to the event all guests received a number for a lucky draw. Karabelo Primary School was one of the lucky winners and went home with a Grade 1 Reading Corner also donated by Macmillan Education. Tjhebelopele Primary School received a Gr R Reader Box that contained 40 Readers and Monyatsi Primary School received an Expert Educator Series Box to assist them with teacher training and development.
The event was concluded with a lunch for all guests sponsored by Macmillan Education.
